S.T.E.P. Up Tutoring
Student Tutoring and Enrichment Program
S.T.E.P. Up Tutoring provides Academic tutoring services to Community students, kindergarten through higher education. The goal of the tutoring program is to increase the confidence and competence of students through engaging learning experiences and intentional practice. The tutoring services model consists of High Impact Tutoring, Acceleration, Individualization, and Cultural Responsiveness. High Impact Tutoring is a proven strategy for increasing student outcomes that goes beyond traditional homework help. Tutors are trained paraprofessionals who have competed two years or more of college and are passionate and skilled at helping others.
- All SRPMIC members may participate in tutoring.
- All tutors have received training to provide high intensity tutoring services in mathematics and/or literacy.
- Tutors work one-on-one with students or in small groups with guidance from classroom teachers.
- Tutoring sessions occur at least three times per week, for a total of 50 hours or more.
- Tutors are assigned to two locations: Salt River Elementary School and/or the Accelerated Learning Academy.

School Day Tutoring
Tutoring is provided to SRPMIC students on a one-on-one or small group basis in the classroom or in a quiet area (the library, for example) near the classroom. Tutors assist students with improving skills through regular, targeted tutoring sessions focused on mathematics and literacy, classroom assignments, and learning-how-to-learn skills. Students receive a tutor to work with based on parent or teacher request and availability. Services are available to SRPMIC students in designated schools. Please contact us regarding registration.
Summer Enrichment Camp
S.T.E.P. Up provides a four-week enrichment program in coordination with Salt River Elementary School’s Summer Program during the month of June. This program is available for all Community students in grades K-6 regardless of the school they attend during the school year. The program features engaging themes, projects, and activities. Instruction is focused on reading, writing, mathematics, and science; we also incorporate O’odham and Piipaash cultures and languages throughout the curriculum. Students also attend field trips and special events.
We partner with the Salt River Junior ACE program for students in grades 5 and 6. The first two weeks are Junior ACE and the remaining two weeks are provided by S.T.E.P. Up. Transportation, lunch, and breakfast are included. Families must complete a camp registration form in May to enroll their child.
Summer Jump Start
The Summer Jump Start program is offered to all SRPMIC students in grades 1-6 during the first three weeks of July. The focus is to provide students a jump start for the following year in mathematics and literacy. Art and fitness will be included, along with special activities. Transportation, breakfast, and lunch are included. Families must complete a Jump Start registration form in May to enroll their child.
