ASSESSMENTS

The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) implemented an assessment system for the 2022-23 school year. As an Arizona charter school, the Accelerated Learning Academy follows state guidelines; each spring students participate in ADE assessments. Below are the tests for the 2022-2023 ADE Assessment System:

ALA students take state assessments specific to secondary students. Assessments dependent upon need (AZELLA and MSAA) are not always given each year at ALA. Districts also have the ability to administer various college and career readiness assessments. ALA students will also have the opportunity to take the ASVAB.

    • Taking the ACT Test: This document provides test prep resources, information about prohibited items/behaviors, score reports, and instructions to complete non-test information. Students will need to set up a MyACT account (see link above), either prior to testing or within two days of test completion.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Results from the Arizona state summative assessments are used (along with self-reported data for secondary schools) in calculating Arizona’s A-F letter grades.

Arizona’s A-F letter grade system has three distinct models. The ALA is graded under the Alternative 9-12 model, in which schools earn the majority of their points through self-reported data (CCRI, On-Track to Graduate, Credits Earned). Below are the weights and indicators for the Alternative model.
Weights and indicators for the Alternative letter grade model.

History & Grade
The Arizona State Board of Education approved the current Arizona A-F letter grade system in 2017 (implemented in the 2017-18SY). The Alternative 9-12 model was approved for the 2018-19 school year.

In FY2019, the ALA earned a B.

Due to school closures caused by COVID-19, the U.S. Dept. of Education issued a waiver in the spring of 2020 to halt state summative assessments. AZ House Bill 2402 (signed in Feb. 2021) placed Arizona’s A-F letter grades on hiatus for an entire school year (2020-2021).

At this time, the ALA is a "B school" based on the FY2019 calculations. The ADE Accountability Unit and the ASBE have indicated A-F letter grades will be calculated for the 2021-22 school year. We will post those grades when they are released.
