This is the image for the news article titled NOTICE: PowerSchool Cybersecurity IncidentThis message is to inform Salt River Schools staff and families of enrolled students of a cybersecurity incident that occurred at PowerSchool, a third-party vendor Salt River Schools uses at some of our sites for student information and reporting. Soon, families will receive a generic notice from PowerSchool, regardless of whether or not you were impacted by the cybersecurity incident. We hope this information eases any confusion.

What is PowerSchool: It’s a cloud-based software company in California used by schools across the nation to manage student data—approximately 60 million students worldwide. PowerSchool is the student information system—or SIS—used for the Early Childhood Education Center; the Accelerated Learning Academy also uses PowerSchool’s single sign-on (SSO) for Pearson testing products. Salt River Elementary School does not use PowerSchool.

What Happened: On Dec. 28, 2024, PowerSchool became aware of a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to its SIS service. The incident may or may not have resulted in unauthorized access to certain personal information ECEC families provided to us for registration purposes, such as a child’s name, date of birth, or mailing address.

Our Response: The SRPMIC IT Department takes cybersecurity seriously and immediately reviewed its PowerSchool logs, which showed that some teacher data was compromised; this was later confirmed by PowerSchool Support. The IT Department could not confirm a student data breach and is waiting for more information from PowerSchool Support.

PowerSchool states it has taken the appropriate steps to prevent the data involved from further unauthorized access or misuse and does not anticipate that data being shared or made public.

PowerSchool is confident in its products and security, as is SRPMIC IT, and Salt River Schools will continue utilizing its services.

What’s Next: PowerSchool is working to complete its investigation; it will send notices to families in the next few weeks and offer two years of identity protection and credit monitoring services.

What You Should Do: Monitor your accounts, be vigilant about any suspicious activity, and report any unusual activity immediately. Consider credit monitoring and/or placing a fraud alert on your credit report by contacting the major credit bureaus.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter, call or email Salt River Schools at 480-362-2500 or [email protected].
