From Roots to STEM is the theme of this year's Education Fair, and we aim to highlight the amazing programs and partnerships that root us in Community, language, and culture, while at the same time allow us to extend our branches and STEMs into Indigenous futures of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

For more than 20 years, the Education Fair has been an event for families across Salt River Schools and the whole Community to enjoy learning in fun and unexpected ways. It is free and open to the public, so we hope you will help us spread the word! Join us Thursday, April 2, from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Accelerated Learning Academy Gymnasium (click here to view a map).

We really thought outside the Bunsen burner for this one: There will be fun science fair activities, cultural art demonstrations, a student robot-building contest, GREAT PRIZES, and a tradish-ish O’odham dinner by award-winning Chef Shannon Reina for the first 300 people!

The Education Fair highlights Salt River School
s sites, departments, and programs, as well as our Community and business partners - this year's event boasts more than 50 resource tables, each with activities and giveaways! Check out a list of our confirmed partners below.

The event will spotlight science fair projects from students at Whittier Elementary School and a robot-making contest from students at Salt River Elementary School with special guest judge Miss Indian Arizona Sialik King!

NOTE: Youth from ANY school can enter an individual STEM project for a chance to win a prize - just bring it with you to the Education Fair "Science Fair" table. You can work on the project with your family!

Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community member August Wood is a traditional artist and educator who creates baskets and clay pots utilizing natural materials commonly used by the Akimel O'odham. Joshua Yazzie is an enrolled member of the Gila River Indian Community (District 5 VahKi), curates collections at the Huhugam Heritage Center, and initiated the Akimel O’Otham Weavers Circle.

Participants at the Education Fair can watch as Joshua demonstrates his skills in basketry and August demonstrates how to make clay pottery. There will be an opportunity for youth to make their own contemporary version of these items using the skills taught by August and Joshua.
